April 23, 2010 Due to Severe Weather Forecast Starkville Spring Shootout Tournament is CANCELED.
The inevitable is here. The Starkville Spring Shootout Tournament is Canceled for 2010! We could not bring 69 teams up here and risk the players, coaches and parents safety while trying to deal with the forecast that is upon us. Playing in rain and mud is one thing. Playing with the potential of high winds, damaging hail, lightning and possible tornadoes is an entirely different matter. We were still hoping and praying last night as we moved goals, sandbags, tied up nets and moved benches and trash cans that we still might play this weekend. Knowing that the work might be all for nought, we still carried on with dreams of the storms moving elsewhere. Note that your checks have not been cashed, credit cards have not been charged so no refunds are applicable. I will simply destroy all of the information I have collected over the past month. Don't worry about us. We will lick our wounds and try again next year. This tournament has been a very successful, competitive tournament for us, one that has drawn virtually all of the northern district teams, some of the western and a bunch of the central district year in and year out. We will hope to put it on again next year with a better weather forecast and will ask for your support again. Thanks for your support in the past and this year, and we hope we will be able to catch up with you next year, 2011. Wishing you all well this weekend as these potential dangerous storms travel through most of Mississippi. Sincerely yours, Richard Stubbs, Tournament Organizer
